Please read the description carefully before booking. I do need to know you are booking as early as possible as these dates are listed on other websites and have to be manually changed.
Please Read Carefully
I have altered this experience to allow you the guest to try out basic spindle turning. I will start with a small blank and show you how to turn safely. Then you will turn a simple 6 inch blank cylinder which I have prepared for you.
Next is the Hanging Ornament making. Check out the pictures above.
Due to the complexity and skill required to turn one of my Hanging Ornaments, I will turn the decoration from a wood blank into it’s final shape in two stages as you watch. You will then sand, seal, wax embellish and finish the piece to your own specifications to take home with you.
In order for you to be able to do certain stages yourself, I will demonstrate how to: Fully sand the piece so that you will be able to sand on your own. Add colour to the piece with whatever colours you choose (10 colours to choose from) Embellish the grain with gold wax Apply the overcoat of High Gloss to make it shine. Add the hook eye to the top of the ornament. Add the ribbon, which you will choose for yourself.
Woodturning is quite difficult so if at any stage if you cannot complete a step I will help you or do it for you.
In the last few years I have become very well known for my Hanging Ornament decorations and they have moved on from the earlier natural grain versions to a mixture of colour and natural grain. As far as I know I am the only Woodturner in the world making this type of ornament. I think that makes this tour fairly special.
I have air filters working in the background which take some of the particulates out of the air but If you are allergic to wood dust then this tour/demonstration might not be for you. I will provide dust masks if you need them and face shields for your safety.
If you would like to see a small range of my stock with a view to purchase, I can arrange a limited display. Please let me know when booking.

I'm a Woodturner and Woodcrafter from Tralee Co. Kerry Ireland and I run a full time business from my workshop at home. I also teach Woodturning to anyone interested in my studio and have taken on students from most of Munster and further afield.
I'm a member of both the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland and Original Kerry Craft Group. I always wanted to have a home based business and the last recession gave me the push I needed to make a start. Although a qualified Carpenter for years, I had never actually cut and dried fresh hardwood before so since 2014 I have been doing just that.
My style of turning suits my personality. I get bored of repetition and I like to go with the flow. When I see an interesting grain pattern emerge on the lathe I try to feature it as much as possible. I don’t like using guides, templates or storyboards at all now. My woodturning is constantly evolving and changing. Rather than doing batch lots of the same pieces over and over again, I turn a group of pieces and then analyze and progress them in the follow up pieces. Looking back through my pieces you should be able to see a clear evolution and progression of design.
I see myself as a conservationist and I often have to argue with fallen tree owners where they want to cut the trees into firewood and I want to create something beautiful. It’s such a pity that people see trees as a source of income or heating a small room in the house being totally destroyed in the process. While my turning does destroy the tree too, at least there is something remaining that is as beautiful as the once standing tree.
A portion of my sales now go towards a hardwood tree planting organisation in the West of Ireland called Hometree. Please look them up online and donate to a worthy cause. It is so hard to make a living from Woodcraft alone so I have branched out into other retail items. Any purchase you make from me goes a long way. Thank you for reading.
