I wish you lived closer, handmade clay house decoration, distant neighbours, friends abroad, gift for friends and family, house decoration, new home
Having moved country more than once this past ten years, I often wish the friends I'd made along those journeys lived closer to me. Thats what inspired these beautiful pieces. They are larger than most of my other pieces as they measure 11cm.
There is an option to personalise by adding a name above the pictured writing, it will be in a different font but same colour.
The Process: I roll out clay before pressing a house shaped cutter into it. Once that's done I use ink to press a pre made stamp into the piece. Then I have a lace patterned template that I carefully press into the clay above the stamped writing. Once I'm happy with that I cut out a small heart shape in the 'roof' and add a hole for hanging. Now comes the hard part for me!!! - I need to be patient while the clay thoroughly dries out, this can take 2-4 days.
Now I can get on with sanding it to remove rough edges and larger imperfections. I sand twice, as the second time I like to tidy up any writing that had bled when the clay was drying and to give a lovely smooth surface. A touch of matt varnish to seal it and a hint of sparkle before adding natural string and wooden bead or jute ribbon.

I make each item from scratch and as such, there is a lot of time involved in each piece. Once the order is placed I generally get to work on them within 12 hours so cancellations are not always possible. I will not accept exchanges or returns on personalised items as I cannot re sell. However, in the case where your order might arrive broken I will make and send a replacement ASAP or if you prefer I will issue a full refund.
Allow me to introduce myself. I’m a busy Mam of two living in the beautiful Hill of Down, Co Meath next to the Royal Canal Greenway. I’m a native of Edenderry, Offaly. In my former career I had an undergraduate degree in Social studies and was studying for a degree in forensic psychology. Most of my career I spent managing a youth justice project supporting vulnerable teenagers. However all of that changed when I took a career break to spend time with my young children. My outlook completely changed and my priorities did too. I have always been a creative soul and find pure joy in making with my own hands. So with huge family support I established my own little business – The Clay Conifer and have never been happier. My goal is to be Irelands ‘go to’ small business to shop for the highest quality handmade clay gifts for all occasions.
